Event Overview
The 'Nezha Belief and Customs' were inscribed onto Macau's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2012. Each year around the 18th day of the fifth lunar month (corresponding to Nezha's Birthday), a series of celebratory activities are held by devotees across the city.
Main Activities Schedule
June 20 (Monday)
- Prayer Ceremony at Ruins of St. Paul's Nezha Temple: 9:30 AM
- Cantonese Opera Performance: 7:30 PM
June 21 (Tuesday)
- Traditional Parades & Floats Procession: Starts at 2:00 PM from the Ruins of St. Paul's. A '抢炮仪式' (cannon grabbing ritual) precedes the departure. The route passes through Senado Square, Rua de Cinco de Outubro, and St. Augustine's Square.
- Eight Immortals Pay Tribute Ceremony: Around 10:00 PM at Ruins of St. Paul's Nezha Temple.
- Cantonese Opera Performance: 7:30 PM
June 22 (Wednesday – Nezha's Birthday)
- Lion Dance 'Cai Qing' Parade: Starts at 8:30 AM from Ruins of St. Paul's Nezha Temple.
- Grand Nezha Prince Procession Ceremony: The highlight event. Starts at 10:00 AM from Monte Hill (Mount Hill) Nezha Ancient Temple / Rua da Figueira. After a sacrificial ceremony, the Nezha Prince's palanquin is respectfully invited to begin a procession through the streets, accompanied by children sprinkling holy water and flowers.
