Overview

The Macau Economic Society proudly presents the 6th edition of its annual Economic Essay Competition, a platform fostering the growth of local economic research talent. The competition is now open for submissions.

Competition Details

• Application Period: September 6 – October 31, 2016
• Eligibility: Participants must be Macau residents aged 18 or above. For co-authored entries, at least one author must be a Macau resident.
• Categories: The competition is divided into two groups:
  • Student Group: Macau students enrolled in tertiary institutions (including those studying abroad).
  • Open Group: Members of the public from all sectors.
• Submission Limit: Participants may submit a maximum of two essays within their chosen group.

Prizes

Student Group

• First Prize (1 winner): MOP 5,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Second Prize (2 winners): MOP 3,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Third Prize (3 winners): MOP 2,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Merit Award (multiple winners): MOP 500 cash prize and certificate.

Open Group

• First Prize (1 winner): MOP 10,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Second Prize (2 winners): MOP 5,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Third Prize (3 winners): MOP 3,000 cash prize and certificate.
• Merit Award (multiple winners): MOP 500 cash prize and certificate.

Research Themes

Essays should address topics related to Macau's economic development, including but not limited to:

• Strategies for Macau's sustainable economic development, referencing national and regional plans.
• Research on promoting moderate economic diversification (e.g., MICE, Chinese medicine, specialty finance).
• Studies and suggestions for accelerating the "One Center, One Platform" strategy.
• Research on participating in the "Belt and Road" initiative and deepening regional economic cooperation.
• Analysis of the Macau SAR government's social welfare policies.
• Studies on business operations and government policies supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.
• Research on the impact of global economic trends on Macau's development.
• Application of economic theories to guide Macau's economic policy development.

Submission Guidelines

• Essay titles are self-determined. While primarily accepting Chinese submissions, other languages may be considered.
• Essays must follow academic formatting (suggested reference: past editions of Macau Excellent Economic Essays or the Macau Economy journal).
• Submissions must be original, unpublished works not submitted to other competitions. Revised and improved versions of previous entries to this competition are acceptable.
• Entries must not contain any personal identifying information. Student group applicants must submit a copy of their student ID.
• Judges will be appointed by the Society. Results will be announced in major Chinese newspapers and on the Society's website before the end of the year.
