Overview
To encourage the community to care about Macau, research Macau's economic issues, and cultivate local research talent, the Macau Economic Society is organizing the "2014 Macau Economic Essay Competition." This is the fourth year the competition has been held. Registration is now open, with the submission deadline on October 31, 2014.
The competition is divided into two categories: Open Category and Student Category. Students from Macau's higher education institutions and members of the public are welcome to participate.
Competition Details
1. Essay Topics
- Research on Macau's economic policies (including human resources, housing, etc.)
- Prospects for Macau's industrial development and moderate economic diversification
- Research on regional economic cooperation (including Guangdong-Macau cooperation)
- Research on Macau's development as a "World Centre of Tourism and Leisure"
- Research on the strategic function of Macau as a commercial and trade service platform
- Research on the impact of Hengqin's development on Macau's economic future
- Research on how the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will promote Macau's tourism industry
- Other thematic research related to Macau's economy
2. Eligibility
- Participants must be Macau residents aged 18 or above.
- Student Category: Macau students enrolled in higher education institutions.
- Open Category: Members of the public from all sectors.
3. Essay Requirements
- Format: Academic essay.
- Specifications: Title is self-determined. Essays should be primarily written in Chinese and formatted according to academic standards. It is recommended to refer to the society's publications: Macau Excellent Economic Essay Collection or the Macau Economy journal.
- Word Count (excluding abstract, keywords, references):
- Student Category: 3,000–5,000 words
- Open Category: Up to 10,000 words
- Abstract: Within 300 words.
- Keywords: Up to 5 phrases.
- References: Must be listed at the end of the essay.
4. How to Participate
- Submission Limit: Each participant may submit up to two essays.
- Application Form: Participants must complete the attached application form. Personal information must not appear on the essay itself.
- Submission Method: Submit the essay and application form directly or via email to the society.
- Deadline: October 31, 2014.
5. Competition Rules
- Participants are responsible for the content of their essays and any copyright or social disputes arising from them.
- All citations must be properly sourced.
- Submitted works must not have been previously published or entered into other competitions.
- The society reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not comply with the rules without prior notice.
- Participants must accept the judges' decisions and the society's final rulings.
- The society reserves the right to publish winning entries in its publications without additional remuneration.
- The society reserves the right to amend the competition rules.
- Participation implies acceptance of all rules.
6. Prizes
Student Category
- First Prize (1 winner): MOP 5,000 cash and certificate
- Second Prize (2 winners): MOP 3,000 cash and certificate
- Third Prize (3 winners): MOP 2,000 cash and certificate
- Merit Awards (several): MOP 500 cash and certificate
Open Category
- First Prize (1 winner): MOP 10,000 cash and certificate
- Second Prize (2 winners): MOP 5,000 cash and certificate
- Third Prize (3 winners): MOP 3,000 cash and certificate
- Merit Awards (several): MOP 500 cash and certificate
7. Judging
- The society will invite economics scholars and experts to serve as judges.
8. Results and Award Ceremony
- Results will be announced in major Chinese newspapers in Macau and on the society's website by the end of the year. Winners will be notified by the society.
- The award ceremony date will be announced separately.
