Overview
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao, the Macao International Music Festival will be held in October 2021 as a special project. The theme is "Echoes of October," aiming to connect and communicate with the world through music. In response to the ongoing global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's festival continues to focus on Chinese performers and Macao's rising music stars, offering citizens a diverse and rich program of musical events and activities.
Featured Programs
- Pianist Chen Sa's Recital: The only Chinese pianist to have won prizes in three major international competitions (Leeds, Chopin, and Van Cliburn). She will perform Beethoven's Piano Sonatas No. 4 and No. 10, as well as Schumann's Kinderszenen and Kreisleriana.
- Tribute to Mahler: Celebrating the 110th anniversary of the Austrian composer's death, bass-baritone Shen Yang (BBC Cardiff Singer of the World winner) and four young musicians will present Youthful Dreams, featuring Mahler's Lieder und Gesänge aus der Jugendzeit, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
- East Meets West Concert: Led by National First-Class Conductor Liu Ju, the Macao Chinese Orchestra will collaborate with violinist Xie Nan and guzheng player Su Chang. The program includes the famous violin concerto The Butterfly Lovers and the guzheng concerto Ru Shi, alongside the orchestra's performance of the Nanyang-style piece Sister Islands.

- Public Sale Start Date: September 25, 2021 (Saturday).
- First-Day Sales Limit: Maximum 6 tickets per person per session.
- Purchase Methods: On-site, telephone, and online booking available from the first day.
- First-Day On-Site Purchase (Oct 10–12): Requires prior online registration via the Macao Ticketing Network's预约系统 starting 10:00 AM on September 23 (Thursday). Registration is based on mobile number, with limited slots available first-come, first-served.
- Assistance: For those needing help with registration, in-person assistance is available at Macao Ticketing Network outlets during business hours while the预约 system is open.
- Phone/Online Purchase: No prior registration required.
Extension Activities
The festival also includes masterclasses, workshops, pre-concert talks, exhibitions, outdoor performances, and charity shows.
