Overview
The Macao Giant Panda Pavilion is a dedicated facility for giant pandas located within Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane. Designed to blend with the natural hillside terrain in a fan-shaped layout covering approximately 3,000 square meters, the pavilion offers a habitat that mimics the pandas' natural environment.
Pavilion Features
- Architecture & Design: The building is nestled against a hillside with a design that mimics nature. The outdoor yard is enclosed by rock-like walls, and the entire pavilion is covered by a translucent, seashell-shaped roof that maximizes natural light.
- Panda Habitats: The facility includes two indoor activity areas (each about 330 m²), a 600 m² outdoor yard, and a 900 m² indoor exhibit area. The outdoor yard retains many original trees.
- Visitor Viewing: The indoor viewing area features two elevated walkways, allowing two streams of visitors to observe the pandas simultaneously. The outdoor area has large, toughened glass viewing windows.
- Support Facilities: An on-site logistics center includes panda dens, bamboo washing and storage areas, a feed preparation room, a veterinary clinic, and a control center.
Supporting Facilities
- Macau Giant Panda Information Center: Converted from the former Nature Education Centre, this two-floor facility features a ground-floor multifunctional hall for exhibitions and lectures, and a first-floor interactive exhibition hall about giant pandas.
- Macao Giant Panda Gift Shop: Sells a wide range of panda-themed souvenirs, including soft toys, bags, clothing, stationery, and household items.
- Dining & Amenities: Snack shops and outdoor cafes are located near the gift shop.
- Parking: Ample parking is available, with approximately 21 spaces for coaches, over 300 for cars, and 60 for motorcycles.
Visitor Information
- Location: Seac Pai Van Park, Coloane.
- Pavilion Opening Hours: 10:00–13:00, 14:00–17:00 (Last entry at 16:45). Closed on Mondays (if Monday is a public holiday, closed the next Tuesday).
- Admission Fee: MOP 10.00.
- Free Admission: Children aged 12 & under and seniors aged 65 & above.
- Ticket Purchase: Available at the pavilion ticket office (Tue–Sun, 9:30–17:00) and various government service centers.
- Park Opening Hours: 08:00–18:00 (Free entry).
- Information Center Hours: 10:00–17:00.
- Gift Shop Hours: 10:00–17:30.
- Snack Shop/Cafe Hours: 09:30–17:30.
- Public Parking Hours: 09:00–18:00 (Ticket validation required at the gift shop before exit).
