Presented by Macao Dancer Studio, the street dance musical theatre series enters its third year. Following Maybe One Day and I Am a Singer, 2019 brings the period street dance musical Useless Heroine. Directed by Chen Qiaorong, with music and lyrics by A Zuo and choreography by Zhang Yueying, this production challenges conventions with a groundbreaking 'fusion' approach, blending martial arts elements into popular street dance and music against a backdrop of ancient martial arts (wuxia).
A female knight-errant who is utterly clueless about love meets a naive scholar whose head is full of romantic fantasies. She excels at swordplay; he is only versed in the arts. These two individuals, both feeling 'powerless over their own fate,' spark all sorts of comedic mishaps, inadvertently offending the dreaded leader of a sinister cult! In a life-or-death crisis, can she hold onto her beliefs? And how can he, with no martial arts skills, protect the woman he loves?
