The 2025 Macao Cultural and Creative Design Competition is now open for submissions. Organized by the Institute of Innovative Design of the International (Macao) Academic Research Institute, the Joint Institute of History and Culture (co-established by the Macao Research Institute of Jinan University and the International (Macao) Academic Research Institute), and the Macao Jewelry and Precious Stones Association, this competition aims to respond to the strategic positioning of Macao as outlined in the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area." Macao is envisioned as a "base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist."
The competition centers on two core themes: "Bringing Cultural Heritage to Life" and "Macao Memories." Its primary goals are:
Delve into Macao's rich historical context—from World Heritage sites and intangible cultural heritage skills to everyday street memories. Use creative design to awaken dormant cultural genes. Designers are encouraged to freely explore local cultural symbols and transform historical resources through innovative thinking, creating products, experiences, and visual works that can integrate into contemporary life.
From the aroma of silk-stocking milk tea in cha chaan tengs to the incense smoke at A-Ma Temple; from the quadrilingual family letters of Macanese families to the salty-water folk songs of Tanka fishermen—this theme calls on designers to immerse themselves in Macao's streets and alleys. Use design to deconstruct the human warmth found in food, dialects, festive rituals, immigrant stories, and symbols of faith. Create cultural and creative products that carry "Macao Memories."
Free theme creation with no restrictions on subject matter or creative form.
