Presented by Little City Experimental Theatre as part of their 2013 "Post-Wave" Theatre Season.
Inspired by the Tony Award-winning play M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang, this experimental musical is based on a true story. In 1960s Beijing, two elegant young men meet and embark on a complex, unconventional romance: one is Shi Pei Pu, a playwright for the Peking Opera, and the other is Bernard Boursicot, a clerk at the French Embassy. Their affair lasts for 20 years, during which Boursicot remains unaware (or chooses to ignore) that Shi Pei Pu is a man. Ultimately, Boursicot is tried for treason against his country, forcing him to confront the truth about his lover's identity.
