A Grand Stage, A Poignant Love Story | A Long-Awaited Ballet Feast
Shanghai Ballet Company is bringing the ballet masterpiece La Traviata, recreating the intricate and poignant love story penned by 19th-century French author Alexandre Dumas fils.
About the Performance
- Story: Adapted from Dumas fils's novel of the same name, the story follows the courtesan Marguerite and the nobleman Armand who fall in love. Their romance is thwarted by class differences and societal morality, destined to be unaccepted, leading to Marguerite's lonely death from illness.
- Production: This new version, brought by the company, was jointly created in 2019 by Artistic Director, British ballet master Derek Deane, and renowned American composer Carl Davis.
- Highlights: Featuring top domestic dancers, the production uses dreamlike lighting, lavish yet modern stage sets and costumes to breathe new life into this classic.
