We've all played with paper airplanes since childhood, but how much do we really know about the flight principles and origami techniques behind them? Don't miss the "Is a Paper Airplane That Simple?" science popularization lecture this coming Sunday. Members of the 2015 World Paper Airplane Competition's Best Team will share their insights and experiences. Everyone is welcome to sign up!
Ma Ying and He Yichang began participating in the first All-Macao Student Paper Airplane Competition in 2011 and have since competed in five editions. In 2015, with the addition of Yu Jianle, the trio went to Hong Kong for the World Paper Airplane Competition preliminary round. They each won championships in "Longest Flight Distance," "Longest Flight Time," and "Aerobatic Flight," earning them a spot in the global finals in Austria. There, Ma Ying won the individual silver medal for "Longest Flight Time," and their team won the overall BEST TEAM championship award.
Flight has been a human dream since ancient times, with the most recent major breakthrough coming from the Wright brothers. However, for paper airplanes, ancient China had already invented kites and papermaking, making it highly likely that paper airplanes were invented by the Chinese. Today, paper airplanes have evolved into an international sport with three main categories: "Longest Flight Distance," "Longest Flight Time," and "Aerobatic Flight." The 2015 World Paper Airplane Competition BEST TEAM will analyze and demonstrate the three competition categories, covering aircraft design, flight principles, and the application of origami techniques in flight.
