Protagonist Chan Ka Ho is forced to accept a government housing subsidy of MOP 6,000 per month after his building requires structural repairs, leaving him in need of temporary accommodation. As nearby rents and hotel prices have skyrocketed, he, with limited income and a mortgage to pay, has to move into a cheaper guesthouse. Upon arrival, he discovers three other tenants already sharing the room: one from India, one from Hong Kong, and one from mainland China.
Due to differences in race, lifestyle, values, and cultural backgrounds, conflicts arise within the cramped space. Eventually, problems escalate beyond their room, affecting their entire building and the surrounding community. The four find themselves isolated inside, forced to confront questions of survival, escape, and waiting for death.
