The demolition of the wooden houses at Pine Tree Tail in Taipa began on January 30, 2008. With the removal of the last two remaining wooden houses, it became history. Today, Pine Tree Tail is a parking lot. Pine Tree Tail is not a famous scenic spot or historic site, unrelated to World Heritage, unnoticed by tourists, and not even a place known to newcomers to Taipa. Apart from being part of Macau's impoverished class, many residents of the wooden houses were new immigrants. They relied on relatives and friends, or the meager earnings left after making ends meet, to rent small wooden houses with relatively low rents. Some worked outside jobs, while others made a living by scavenging.
In the 1990s, the Hu family of four, dragging large and small bags, arrived at the village entrance of Pine Tree Tail and found their home beside a large banyan tree.
