Selected for the 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Drama Festival, this is the first story set against the backdrop of Macao's first cross-sea bridge. Adapted from Arbuzov's 'The Irkutsk Story', the play explores the connection between past and future, dreams and reality.
In a bustling city, a bridge connects the past and the future, dreams and reality. The old bridge carries countless memories of many generations, while the rise of the new bridge symbolizes change and hope. It bears witness to different generations' pursuits and choices regarding love, dreams, and family, as well as people's nostalgia for the past and their anxieties and aspirations for the future.
In the 1970s, a group of construction workers witnessed the rise, completion, and opening of the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge. They came to Macao from different places for various reasons—some as stowaways, others as migrants. They took on different jobs and shouldered the responsibility for their families. Together, they built the bridge, accomplishing this great project in the small city. They had different ranks, educational backgrounds, and outlooks on life, and the construction workers' perception of the bridge differed greatly from that of ordinary citizens.
The 'bridge' connects the lives of the two shores separated by the sea, while 'The Bridge Reasoning' depicts the communication between people and the subtle emotions and life challenges that arise.
