Since its debut over four hundred years ago, Hamlet has been continuously staged by theatrical artists. I am not interested in retelling the story everyone knows. I have extracted key lines from the script and given them new contexts to express my own reflections.
In Hamletism, I reinterpret some themes from Shakespeare's Hamlet: war, gender politics, and the nature of theater. Furthermore, through re-encoding the original text, I attempt to explore new issues that emerged in the last century. I also encourage the audience to approach Hamlet with an open mind. This production is part of a multi-year creative project to search for the true essence of Hamlet.
