Competition Details
Organized by Macao's "Theatre Farmers" (Drama Farm), co-organized by Guangzhou's "Guangdong Performance Co., Ltd." and Hong Kong's "Chung Ying Theatre Company", and funded by the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Drama Festival 2017 Script Writing Competition (Macao Region) is open for submissions from January 10, 2017. The deadline is March 31, 2017.
Excellent original scripts help promote the development of Macao's theatrical culture and arts. This competition aims to encourage local script creation, discover writing talent, and welcome creative works with diverse perspectives and techniques. "Theatre Farmers" is Macao's first non-profit, full-time professional theatre troupe, dedicated to the social function of drama, nurturing the artistic quality of Macao citizens, expanding the audience for the arts, and establishing local culture. This collaboration under the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Drama Exchange Programme" aims to promote cultural exchange across the three regions. The competition seeks local Macao works, allowing outstanding scripts to represent Macao on stages across the three locations.
Awards
- Macao Region Best Script Award: One winner, prize of MOP 5,000.
- Macao Region Outstanding Script Award: Two winners, each receiving MOP 2,000.
- Note: If the winning script also wins the "Three-Region Best Script Award," an additional prize of MOP 5,000 will be awarded.
- The three outstanding local scripts will have the opportunity to be staged publicly across the three regions and published in a script collection.
Submission Rules
- The competition is open to unpublished and unperformed scripts, including original works or stage adaptations of novels.
- The performance duration should be approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The number of acts or scenes is not limited.
- There is no limit to the number of entries per person.
Judging Process
- Professional judges appointed by the organizer will evaluate the scripts to determine the winners.

Entry Guidelines
- Eligibility: Must hold a Macao Resident Identity Card.
- Script Eligibility: Unpublished and unperformed scripts (original or adapted).
- Theme: No restrictions, but participants are encouraged to write about themes related to the cultures of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
- Selection: Judged by senior Macao theatre professionals. Results will be announced in late May 2017.
- Entry Fee: Free.
- Deadline: March 31, 2017.
- All submissions will be anonymized during judging.
- Results will be announced on the Theatre Farmers website in late May 2017.
- Note: The organizer retains the right to use all submitted works, while copyright remains with the author. Winning works may be published and produced for performance across the three regions.
Submission Instructions
- Entries must be submitted with the completed entry form before the deadline.
- Submissions can be delivered in person, by mail, or by email to Theatre Farmers. The envelope/email subject should be marked "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Drama Festival 2017 — Script Writing Competition".
- The author's name should appear only on the script's cover page. No identifying information (name, pen name, etc.) should appear inside the script. Personal details must be on the entry form.
- Handwritten manuscripts are not accepted.
- Submitted works will not be returned. Participants should keep a copy.
- Entries must be scripts that have never been performed or published in any form (including print and electronic media, e.g., public or private websites). Violation will result in disqualification.
- Mail entries (with form) to: Macao P.O. Box 53. Mark the envelope as indicated above.
- Personal data provided is for registration purposes only and will be kept confidential.
- The organizer reserves the right to reject submissions that violate the guidelines.
