Guan Gong (Lord Guan) is revered as China's 'Military Sage' and a symbol of 'loyalty and righteousness'. With numerous honorific titles bestowed by successive dynasties, he is commonly known among the people as 'Guan Di' or 'Guan Sheng Di'. Macao has a large number of Guan Di devotees. Almost every business establishment enshrines a statue of Guan Di to protect the premises, and several temples are dedicated to his worship.

Guan Di's Birthday, celebrated on the 13th day of the fifth lunar month and the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, is one of Macao's traditional folk customs.
