"Grassland Map" is a brand-new contemporary dance work presented by the residency creation and cultural exchange program "Sang Jijia x City Contemporary Dance Company." Under the guidance of internationally renowned choreographer Sang Jijia, the piece is choreographed by emerging local choreographer Liu Peilin. It breaks free from traditional conventions, using a unique and nuanced perspective to narrate the creator's vision of Macau.
"Grassland Map" attempts to portray the city in three dimensions by combining dance with multimedia. It constructs an urban experience from various angles—Macau's skyline, congested roads and narrow streets, traffic lights, trilingual announcements on buses, and even the city's unique scents—then reimagines and reconstructs it.
Choreographer Liu Peilin has collaborated with numerous internationally renowned choreographers and dance companies, including participation in the "Swift Fox Project" with legendary choreographers Leigh Warren and William Forsythe, and performing in "Cursive" under the guidance of dancers from Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. He is also a prolific emerging choreographer, with recent works invited to festivals such as the Beijing Two-Week Youth Dance Exhibition, Turkey's Under Skin Project, and the Saitama International Dance Festival in Japan.
In addition to this rising dance talent, the production features original music by renowned Hong Kong musician Li Jinsong and visual design by local artist Ke Zhiwei, promising an intriguing chemical reaction.
