An amateur theatre troupe that hasn't rehearsed a play in 20 years. A group of middle-aged friends who only talk about luxury brands and property speculation at gatherings. They receive a call from their emigrated director, proposing to finish the production of Don Quixote that was abandoned two decades ago. When people with careers and families to care for try to relive an old dream, they face immense difficulties and are quick to give up.
Goodbye Don Quixote tells the story of several young people in 1980s Macau, caught between reality and dreams. The backdrop jumps between the 80s and the present, reflecting the shadows of several generations in Macau. Rehearsing the same play, but with vastly different feelings.
