About the Event
Global Game Jam (GGJ), the world's largest game creation event, will be held in Macau from January 25 to 27, 2019. This marks the third consecutive year Macau participates in this global phenomenon. Starting in 2009, GGJ has grown exponentially. In the previous year, it took place across 108 countries at 803 sites, involving 43,000 creators who developed 8,600 games. In Macau, an average of 20 talented game creators participate annually, having collectively created 12 games uploaded to the GGJ website for players worldwide.
Event Format & Philosophy
- Format: A 48-hour intensive game development marathon.
- Process: Participants form teams on-site after the global theme and video are revealed, followed by technical briefings. Teams must create and publish a complete game before the deadline.
- Focus: Encourages innovation, experimentation, and collaboration.
- Goal: To spark wild, unrestrained creativity through rapid teamwork, producing prototypes that could inspire future commercial games.
Who Can Join?
Open to anyone aged 18+ interested in game development, regardless of skill level (beginners and veterans welcome). Participants should have expertise in at least one area:
- Visual Art
- Music & Sound
- Game Design & Production

Past participants highlight the event as a prime opportunity to meet collaborators, unleash creativity, learn new skills, and experience the joy of game development.
