While recent years have seen the market flooded with sequels and franchises, often criticized for stagnating the American film industry, a closer look reveals that contemporary American cinema continues to innovate and evolve.
This seminar, part of the "New America: A Fresh American Film Experience" festival, will explore the latest trends in the US film industry.

Dr. Lam Hon-kwong will deconstruct the recent development trends in the American film industry and analyze the impact of the series of Hollywood sexual assault scandals on the entire industry's ecosystem.
The discussion will cover:
- The legacy of the 'Sundance Generation' of the 90s (including directors like Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, and Steven Soderbergh) who are now established international masters.
- The rise of new young producers in the independent film scene, such as the Safdie brothers and Kitty Green, who are poised to become future pillars of the film world.
Speakers
- Dr. Lam Hon-kwong – Filmmaker and Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong. Holds an MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University. Previously worked at Rialto Pictures and the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York. Currently a PhD candidate at HKU researching Hong Kong film history.
- Host: Lo Kin-cheung – Curator and author of "David Lynch."
