The 12th Footprint Small Theatre Book Festival presents Fan Yi 4.48. This theatre creation takes two modern and contemporary plays from Chinese and Western traditions—Thunderstorm by Cao Yu and 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane—as its starting point. Through reading sessions, character development, and collective creation, it constructs a theatrical work that wanders between literature and space. The experience of reading classic texts is transformed into a poetic theatrical collision.
The "Footprint Small Theatre Book Festival" is organized by the Macao performing arts group Footprint Step Out. Founded in 2010, the festival aims to emphasize the inseparable relationship between the depth of performing arts and reading through various cross-disciplinary experiments in theatre and literature. By creating "book performances," it deepens the exchange between theatre and literature enthusiasts and enhances the interactive reception of these two mediums. Over twelve years, it has sparked experiments and practices in over thirty theatre creations, making it a rare, decade-long, privately-run small theatre arts festival in Macao.
