The Cultural Affairs Bureau introduces the signature performance project 'Fado Night' at the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Dom Pedro V Theatre. This event blends world heritage, music, and gastronomy, inviting professional Fado singers from Portugal to perform in Macao, enriching the city's cultural tourism and showcasing the captivating charm of heritage combined with music.
Fado is Portugal's most representative traditional music. The concert features Portuguese Fado singers Tiago Correia and Bárbara Santos, who will perform a selection of Fado songs, including collaborative pieces.
The 'Fado Night' concert is uniquely designed. During the pre-show twilight hours, the Dom Pedro V Theatre area offers Portuguese snacks and drinks for purchase, accompanied by live music from instruments including the Portuguese guitar, violin, dulcimer, saxophone, and handpan. This allows the audience to enjoy a romantic and relaxed atmosphere within the theatre's neoclassical architecture. An exhibition about Fado music is also set up on-site to introduce audiences to the origins of Fado.
Tiago Correia is a talented Fado singer, lyricist, and composer. At just 26 years old, he has already embarked on a 14-year music career, with his talent and spirit widely recognized.
Bárbara Santos discovered her passion for Fado at a young age.
With her enchanting voice and unique interpretation, Bárbara brings the tradition of Fado into an intimate and moving experience, enveloping the audience with her deep emotion and singing.
