As global warming intensifies, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. Island nations such as the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, and Fiji are facing submersion and severe land salinization due to rising sea levels, forcing their inhabitants to relocate. The World Bank estimates that without preventive measures, 216 million people worldwide could be displaced within their own countries due to climate change by 2050.
To raise public awareness of contemporary climate issues and the impacts of climate change, the Macau Model United Nations Promotion Association is organizing the "Extreme Weather and Climate Refugee Science Education Interactive Theatre - 'Mountain Top and Bottom'" on July 15, 2023. This event, co-organized with Oxfam Macau, invites participants to step into a future world and explore the impacts of climate change through interactive drama.
