Competition Overview
The Eurasian Spelling Bee (ESB) Lexical Skills Competition is a multi-stage English language competition for students, testing skills in writing, listening, and oral presentation. Winners have the opportunity to advance to international finals.
Competition Stages & Details
Preliminary Round
- Competition Format: Writing, Listening, Brainstorming
- Awards & Advancement:
- Top 15% of participants will advance and receive a graded certificate and medal.
- Participants scoring over 50% will receive a graded certificate (Distinction, Merit, Pass) and a medal.
- All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
- Date: April 10, 2022
- Registration Deadline: March 28, 2022
- Fee: MOP 350
- Macau Venue: Macau Yat Jing Centre
- Hong Kong Venue: Hong Kong City Hall or Hong Kong Olympic House
Semi-Final Round
- Competition Format: Writing, Listening, Oral Test
- Awards & Advancement:
- Top three scorers in each category receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place certificates and trophies.
- The 2nd to 8th highest scorers will qualify to represent Hong Kong in the international finals.
- All participants receive a certificate of participation.
- Date: May 7, 2022
- Fee: Free
ESB International Final
- Competition Format: Writing, Listening, Oral Test
- Location: Poland (Flexible arrangements may apply during the pandemic; some regions may compete online).
- Awards: Each category will award two Gold, three Silver, and four Bronze winners.
- Certification: Finalists who meet the required standard will receive an Internationally Recognised Certificate from UK's Gatehouse Awards.
- Date: July 25-26, 2022
- Fee: Free

- School & Learning Centre Awards: Schools and learning centres that send at least 10 student representatives may receive an Outstanding Guidance School and Teacher Certificate if their students win awards.
