A series of engaging activities for Earth Day (April 22), designed to foster reflection on the interconnected issues of global warming, food security, and climate refugees. Through workshops, film screenings, group discussions, and picture book readings, the event aims to expand participants' circle of care from interpersonal relationships to the community, society, and our interaction with nature.
Earth Day marks the beginning of the worldwide environmental protection movement, originating from campus activism in the 1970s in the United States and becoming a global environmental festival and awareness day in the 1990s.
Documentary Macau Premiere & Talk: Young Syrian Lenses What comes to mind when you think of refugees? War? Famine? The recent European refugee crisis? Join representatives from UNHCR Hong Kong to explore this global issue. This documentary records how young Syrian media workers use photography to convey the tragedy of war and documents the armed confrontation between government forces and opposition groups in Aleppo.
Documentary Macau Premiere & Talk: This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate Global warming forces us to rethink existing systems. This film challenges the ideals of the "free market" and argues for a radical overhaul of the global economic and political systems to address the climate crisis. Join representatives from the Macau Environmental Student Union to analyze the truths and myths of global warming.
Green Picture Book Reading: Sometimes and Everything and Nothing Join a shared reading of two thought-provoking picture books. Sometimes, inspired by the 2011 Japan earthquake, captures moments from tranquil to turbulent in nature. Everything and Nothing is a French fable that critiques the philosophy of "developmentalism" and urges reflection on resource consumption.
