When the stage lights shine brightly, and once-blurred faces come into clear focus, the distinct profiles, shifting expressions, and surging inner emotions are all eager to tell you the story of each actor's growth. Sixteen actors, eight scenes, four scripts, two days of performance, one phase of graduation—this is 'Debut'.
This performance consists of eight segments, including selected scenes from the play Dinner with Friends and neutral dialogue scene performances.
Written by playwright Donald Margulies, the play tells the story of bonds and conflicts among four friends and two couples. A routine family gathering and news of a marriage breakdown shatter the seemingly perfect normalcy. When friendships and love clash fiercely due to differences in personality, values, circumstances, and aspirations, can these relationships, once promised to last a lifetime, ultimately be sustained?

The script initially consists only of neutral dialogue without specific meaning. The actors imbue the neutral lines with time, place, characters, and relationships, then shape the characters' souls through emotion and interaction, creating a story that is uniquely their own.

To cultivate new talent for Macau's theatre scene, Hiu Kok Drama Association launched the first phase of the 'Hiu Kok Theatre Actor Training Program' in 2019. Through a series of courses including theatre games, drama theory, script analysis, performance techniques, integrated theatre technology, and management, the program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of theatre operation and management, thereby training more talent in dramatic arts for Macau and strengthening the local theatre community.
The first-phase graduation show is named 'Debut'. Under the guidance of course tutors, the students co-created the performance. Students rotated through various front-of-house and backstage roles, including theatre administration, drama design and performance, and backstage technical execution, to practice and present what they learned over six months, building their own stage. Starting with their 'debut', they present a unique performance for the audience.
