Lecture 1: The Benefits of Sensory Play and Exploration in Early Childhood
Highlights
- The importance and benefits of sensory play and exploration in early childhood.
- How to use sensory experiences to guide and expand a child's curiosity and interests.
About the Lecture
Sensory play covers a wide range of areas, such as free sensory play within a set framework, sensory tables or bins, treasure baskets, and heuristic play. It also includes children's participation in fragmented activities like arts and crafts, painting, dancing, outdoor play, and exploring light.
Participants will learn about the importance and benefits of sensory play and exploration in early childhood through practical lectures and learning environments. The session will cover factors influencing how sensory play is implemented and the perspectives of both children and parents. Parents and early childhood educators can use open-ended activities and hands-on sensory exploration to guide and expand children's curiosity and interests. Children interact with their environment through their senses, and these interactions initiate the learning process. Through sensory play and exploration, educators and parents can ensure children's early learning is more meaningful and observe growth across multiple developmental domains.
