Choreographer Hou Ying, hailed as the Kafka of the dance world, brings her work Color Line to Macau audiences. Through color and line, the piece explores human longing and contemplation, fear and progress, dependence and independence, and the relentless pursuit and awakening of life. Stylized imagery and dramatic stage effects, combined with abstract and sometimes mechanistic choreography, see dancers constantly interweaving and pulling against streams of silk ribbons on stage. This visual spectacle reveals the rich inner world of humanity and reflects on the endless desires of modern society. Sensuality, rationality, and beauty are woven together to create a powerful visual impact.
Hou Ying is a leading figure in Chinese modern dance. During her time in the United States, she served as a core member and rehearsal director for the renowned New York-based Shen Wei Dance Arts. In 2004, she was selected as the New York Times' "Best Dancer of the Year." She was also one of the choreographers for the "Scroll" segment of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. In 2011, she founded the Hou Ying Dance Theatre in Beijing, creating a series of works renowned for their depth, innovation, and aesthetic beauty. The company has been invited to tour over a dozen countries and has performed at major festivals including the New York Asian Arts Festival, the St. Petersburg Open Look International Dance Festival, the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival, and the Shanghai International Arts Festival, receiving widespread acclaim. This presentation of Color Line offers Macau audiences a chance to experience the profound reflections on human nature and the uniquely ecstatic yet rational style of this internationally acclaimed choreographer.
