When we talk about stargazing, many people think of the twelve constellations from Greek mythology. However, ancient China had already developed its own sophisticated system for mapping celestial bodies, known as the "star official" system, which holds a significant place in the history of astronomy.
Join us for the "Chinese Stargazing Lecture," presented by Mr. Li Zhihui, President of the Macao Astronomical Society.
President Li will introduce the stargazing techniques of ancient China, explaining concepts such as the "Three Enclosures, Four Symbols, and Twenty-Eight Mansions" (三垣四象二十八宿). The lecture will explore the distinctions and connections between the Chinese and Western systems of celestial division.
