About the Artist
Chan Wai Man is a distinguished Macau-based pianist, educator, and music administrator. A graduate of Macao Polytechnic Institute's Music Education program, he furthered his piano studies at Wright State University in the USA on scholarships from the Macao Foundation, Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao, and the university itself, under the tutelage of Dr. Leong I Son.
Musical Journey & Achievements
- Began learning piano, double bass, and wind instruments at age 12 with church support.
- Holds the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) piano performance certificate and an elementary organ performance certificate.
- Studied under renowned teachers including Mr. Chan Ching Meng, Mr. Cheong Hong Kan, Ms. Wong Mei Tak of Guangzhou, Professor Li Qi, and Macau's celebrated pianist Ms. Leong Kim Ieng.
- An active performer in solo, accompaniment, and conductor roles at venues like the Xinghai Concert Hall (Guangzhou), Gulangyu Concert Hall (Xiamen), Dongguan Yulan Grand Theatre, and various venues in the USA, Hong Kong, and Macau.
- Has taught at the Macao Polytechnic Institute Elderly College and multiple Macau primary and secondary schools, leading choirs to awards in inter-school competitions.
Awards & Recognition
- Multiple piano competition awards including the Chopin First Prize in the Macau Youth Music Competition, First Prize in the Mendelssohn category of the All-Macau Youth Music Competition, and second place in the Macau region of the Hong Kong Mozart Piano Competition.
- Accomplished vocalist, winning first prize in the New Reclamation Area Pop Song Competition (Open Category) and first prize in the All-Macau Tertiary Institutions Singing Competition.
- His students have consistently won awards and scholarships in local and regional piano competitions, with many admitted to music performance and education programs in the USA, Taiwan, and Macau.
- Frequently invited as a judge for major singing and piano competitions across the Greater China region.
