The Chestnut Festival is a traditional festival highly valued by the Macanese community and is listed on Macao's Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory. The festival commemorates the charitable act of 'cutting his cloak to give to a beggar' by Saint Martin of Tours, a Catholic bishop in the 4th century. Legend has it that the story took place during the autumn and winter season when new wine is produced and chestnuts are harvested. Therefore, November 11th was designated as 'Saint Martin's Day,' celebrated by tasting wine and chestnuts, hence it is also known as the 'Chestnut Festival.'
The 'Carnival Chestnut Festival' aims to introduce the unique Macanese culture to residents and visitors through Macanese cuisine, food stalls featuring chestnuts, stage performances, photo spots, and booth games.
