Cantonese Opera (Yueju)
Cantonese Opera, or Yueju, is a traditional performing art with a history spanning over 300 years. Performed in the Cantonese language, it originated in Guangdong and is widely popular in Guangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. It is distinguished by its bold performing skills and is the most influential multi-tune opera genre in southern China.
In 2014, the art form celebrated the 10th anniversary of its listing by UNESCO as one of the "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity."
