American string quartet Brooklyn Rider, invited by the Macao Cultural Centre, lands in Macao on April 25 (Thursday) to present a concert that breaks traditional genre boundaries, blending classical and original compositions. Tickets go on sale to the public on March 3.
Founded in 2007, the quartet's four members were all mentored by the renowned maestro Yo-Yo Ma and served as principal musicians in his Silk Road Ensemble. The group, deeply inspired by the pre-WWI Munich art collective Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), has reimagined the 300-year-old tradition of the string quartet, earning praise as "the future of chamber music" from String Magazine. Their performance promises a boundary-less musical feast, featuring works from Beethoven to original compositions and exotic melodies.
A free pre-concert talk will be held on April 25 at 7:00 PM, featuring Macao musician Li Zhao Kang, who will deconstruct Brooklyn Rider's performance style and introduce the evening's program. Registration begins March 3. Limited seats available.
