"Body / Deconstruction" is a brand new project developed by Comuna de Pedra (Stone Commune). Planned as an ongoing activity with the concept of a "theatre season," it aims to explore artistically groundbreaking performance forms and platforms beyond mainstream formats. This project is intended to be held annually.
As the name suggests, "Body / Deconstruction" is guided by the goal of expanding the possibilities of physical creation and deconstructing the essential meaning of theatrical performance. It is a curated series of performance creations, exchanges, and multimedia creative activities.
Through this project, we strive to cultivate the local contemporary performing arts platform, nurture more emerging creators, promote contemporary performing arts, advocate for more avant-garde artistic concepts, and work to develop and expand the audience.
A fusion of dance, body movement, performance art, sound art, improvisation, experimental music, and installation art.
What is contemporary art? Once labeled "contemporary," does everything become contemporary? How much is the term "contemporary" worth? Must art be "contemporary" to keep up with international trends? This "Undominated Moments of Wakefulness" is a journey—it could be a "contemporary" work, and it may also relate to life, society, the city, and politics. What happens on this journey depends on how everyone participates, how they give and take, and how they position themselves. In other words, what "Undominated Moments of Wakefulness" is doesn't really matter; what matters is who you are.
"Real Distance" consists of two performance pieces presented as a double-bill in one evening. Two creators, Vong Weng Ian and Cheong Cho Seng, question and reflect on their own works, establishing a physical aesthetic through solo performances.
"Distance" by Vong Weng Ian There is always a certain distance in human interaction, which society defines as a "safe distance." Whether adults or children, men or women, the elderly or the young, we are all independent individuals. Yet, at the same time, no one can survive completely alone; we need each other to some degree. However, the surrounding environment is full of unknowns. Our era is constantly progressing, spaces are constantly changing, and information is constantly increasing. While we struggle to accept these various transformations, anxiety arises within us. How should this feeling of anxiety position us in our relationships?
"Unrelated Truth" by Cheong Cho Seng The ancient maxim "As above, so below" outlines a correlation from the external to the internal, from the illusory to the substantial. Here, the author attempts to use the abstract phrase "Pisces Saturn" for association, employing astrological connections between these two terms to speculate within the context of the daily living environment. In the performance, he tries to fit external elements of association and collage into a reorganization of the performance structure, constructing an experimental theatrical piece.
Three members of Comuna de Pedra. Let's try to see ourselves, the city, and the world through the paths they have walked. The roles they play are themselves. Their scripts come from their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Their stage is both the theatre and life.
There's a saying: "All history is subjective. History doesn't actually exist; what we have are only biographies." And "side stories" are "stories within stories" or "stories outside stories," developing branches and leaves into the main trunk as supplements and annotations.
"Stone Side Stories" starts from the individual, using the stage to document and present in the present moment the "Shu Dao Xing"—the arduous journey—these three people have been walking all along.
