Birth of the Performer-Educator: Drama Education and Life
A comprehensive series of lectures, workshop training, and practical performances divided into three progressive stages.
Phase 1: Foundational Training I - Introduction to TIE and DIE
- Dates: September 26; October 10, 17, 24, 31; November 7, 2022 (Every Monday)
- Time: 19:30–21:30 (12 hours total)
- Description: Introduces the basic elements, characteristics, and functions of drama education and educational theatre, clarifying their similarities and differences. Focuses on training the essential qualities and practical skills of a performer-educator through drama games.
- Capacity: 20 participants
- Target Audience: Individuals working in drama or education, or those interested in educational theatre.
Phase 2: Foundational Training II - "Writing, Directing, Acting" Training
- Dates: November 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12, 2022; January 9, 16, 30; February 6, 2023 (Every Monday)
- Time: 19:30–21:30 (18 hours total)
- Description: Concentrates on training the essential abilities of a performer-educator, including performance skills, scenario creation, and techniques for leading participants in activities. Participants must complete an "Educational Theatre Project Proposal" in groups. Outstanding performers will be prioritized for Phase 3.
- Capacity: 15 participants
- Target Audience: Priority given to those who completed Phase 1. Open to individuals working in drama/education or interested in educational theatre.
Phase 3: Foundational Training III - Practice of Performance-Education
- Dates: Mid-February to March 2023
- Description: Training with the goal of a final performance. Participants will learn, practice, and reflect in the role of a "performer-educator." Participants must first attend the intensive "Foundational Training - Adapting Literature" workshop (12 hours total) from February 17–19, 2023. Through discussion, creation, rehearsal, and performance, participants will apply knowledge from the first two phases in a real-world context. The organizer will provide drama consultants and mentors as practice partners, offering professional technical support to present a professional educational theatre performance for a target audience. After the performance, participants must submit a reflective journal. Those who complete the program will receive a stipend.

- Target Audience: Priority selection for outstanding performers from Phases 1 and 2.
Note: The Phase 3 practice is scheduled after the 2023 Lunar New Year. In addition to supporting performance planning, the Big Mouse Children's Theatre Troupe will provide rehearsal coordination, venue coordination, performance equipment, and promotional assistance. Outstanding performers may have the opportunity to join the Big Mouse Children's Theatre Troupe's performer-educator team for future professional performances.

- Fees:
- Phase 1: MOP 1,200 (MOP 200 refundable with 90% attendance)
- Phase 2: MOP 1,800 (MOP 300 refundable with 90% attendance)
- Phase 3: Free with a practice stipend.
- Certificates: A certificate will be awarded for attendance above 80%.
- A certificate of completion will be issued for finishing Phase 1 or 2.
- A certificate for the entire training internship course will be issued upon completing Phase 3.
*With the approval of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre for Mr. Chow Siu Lun's participation.
