This lecture offers a deep dive into the sacred music of Professor Lam Lok Pui, a Macau-born composer hailed as the 'Father of Hong Kong Modern Music'. Deeply influenced by his Catholic faith, Professor Lam created a significant body of sacred works, including well-known pieces like The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Mass of Thanksgiving, Song of Thanksgiving, and Gloria. His compositions are celebrated for their use of contemporary musical language and unique personal style.
The event features Dr. Viola Yuen, a Hong Kong-based composer, conductor, and educator, who will deconstruct and share the creative concepts and techniques behind Professor Lam's work.

Composer-in-Residence at Macau's St. Pius X Music Academy, part-time lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Music Director of Hong Kong's first contemporary a cappella group Sregnis Singers, Membership Secretary of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, Music Director and founder of Coro allegra and Chummy Choir. Served as conductor of the Hong Kong Diocesan Choir and instructor for its sacred music training program from 1990 to 2017.
