Have you ever eaten a banana? You probably think it's delicious and nutritious. But do you know how it's produced? From seed to fruit, to transport, processing, and finally to market? Do you know how this production process affects the lives of local farmers and workers?
We cordially invite you to the Bananas! Movie Screening & Talk x Fair Trade Week* event on April 30th.
This documentary follows a lawyer who leads 12 Nicaraguan banana farmers in a lawsuit against Dole Food Company, the world's largest multinational food corporation. The farmers allege that Dole's long-term use of illegal, toxic pesticides has caused sterility and severe health problems. Behind the sweet fruit, are food corporations operating with a conscience? Do disadvantaged workers in developing countries have a chance to reclaim justice for themselves? This long and difficult lawsuit opens the door to justice for vulnerable farmers.
A discussion session will follow the screening. Representatives from the Hong Kong Fair Trade Alliance will be present to share concepts and the operational model of fair trade. The film is in English with Chinese subtitles.

The GROW Food Justice Campaign is Oxfam's largest advocacy campaign to date. It promotes better food production, resource sharing, and lifestyles to reduce pressure on the planet's resources. In line with the GROW campaign, Oxfam is organizing the Good Food Festival in Macau, launching global citizenship education activities to reconnect urban dwellers with food producers. It invites everyone to reflect on personal responsibility, adopt good eating habits that benefit small-scale farmers, and ensure everyone on the planet has enough to eat.
