The large-scale international cultural and arts event "Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021" will be held from July to October. Continuing the first edition's model of "the whole city as an art museum, art everywhere," it will bring diverse visual art experiences to residents and visitors. The Chief Curator of this edition, Qiu Zhijie, will present two special lectures for the Macao audience in July, introducing the concept and planning logic of the Biennale and exploring the concept of "Asia" and its artistic expressions.
The Macao Biennale not only responds to Macao's geographical environment, cultural identity, and the impact of globalization but also engages with various issues in the global contemporary art world. As a global phenomenon, Qiu Zhijie will discuss how the Biennale constructs a positive relationship with urban culture—serving as a cultural site for local audiences while also participating in contemporary international cultural discourse.
While there are many art exhibitions themed around Asia globally, "Where is Asia?" is not a clear-cut concept. The geographical boundaries of Asia have shifted across different versions of world maps. In today's globalized achievements, Asia is seen as a powerful engine for global economic growth. In this lecture, Qiu Zhijie will explore the representation of "Asia" in artistic expression.
