To celebrate the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) and the Cultural and Educational Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR present a special gala. This event features the renowned mainland Chinese performing arts troupe, the Guangdong Acrobatic Troupe of China, performing the large-scale acrobatic ballet 'Swan Lake'.
This gala aims to promote cultural and artistic exchanges between Macao and mainland China, celebrate national unity, and allow audiences to experience the combined essence of dance and acrobatics while sharing in the joy of the National Day celebrations.
Founded in 1951, the Guangdong Acrobatic Troupe of China has a history spanning over half a century. Over the decades, the troupe has performed internationally over 200 times across 60 countries and regions on five continents. It has frequently accompanied national leaders on cultural diplomatic visits, receiving high praise from numerous heads of state and government officials.
In November 1991, the troupe was honored with the title "Model of the Art World" by the state. It has achieved remarkable success in domestic and international acrobatic competitions, with 143 programs winning a total of 284 awards, including 49 gold medals. Notably, it has won the top prize three times at the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival, often called the "Acrobatic Oscars," and received awards such as China's "Top Ten Performance Events" in 2001.
First premiered in 2004 by the Guangdong Acrobatic Troupe of China, this production is a large-scale acrobatic ballet that masterfully blends the arts of dance and acrobatics. Its debut performance won the "Performance Repertoire Award" and the "First Prize for Acrobatic Creation." It was also recognized by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance as one of the "Top Ten Fine Stage Art Productions" in the National Stage Art Excellence Project for 2005-2006.
To date, the show has been performed over 200 times worldwide. In 2005, it enjoyed sold-out runs of 9 consecutive shows at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and 21 shows at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. In 2006, it toured internationally to cities in Russia, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, receiving enthusiastic responses and strong support from local Chinese embassies and consulates, significantly promoting friendship and cultural exchange.
