Theme: New Forces, Dazzling Brilliance
Following the celebration of its 30th anniversary, the Macau International Music Festival embarks on a new journey with its 31st edition. This year's theme, 'New Forces, Dazzling Brilliance,' focuses on the innovative and vital energy of new musical talents and groundbreaking works.
Festival Highlights
- Opening Opera: Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano, presented to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.
- Outdoor Opera: Christoph Willibald Gluck's lyrical tragedy Orfeo ed Euridice, performed at the historic Mount Fortress.
- Rising Stars: Performances by internationally acclaimed pianist Lukas Geniušas and the renowned South Korean Novus String Quartet.
- Local Productions: The 'Elite Gathering of Artists' concert and a revised version of the local original opera Dream of Mumei in Xiangshan.
- World-Class Ensembles: Concerts by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Beethoven Night) and the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as the grand finale.
- Diverse Lineup: Features include the Chen family erhu ensemble, jazz vocalist Jazzmeia Horn, electronic musician el fog, the Sicilian Lyric Choir, the joyful Soweto Gospel Choir, and Hong Kong singer William So.
