Youth Personal Career Planning and Social Development
Since 2009, our association has clearly identified career planning as a key direction for our development. We established the Career Planning Consultation Centre, which integrates our previous activities in academic counseling, career exploration, and employment/entrepreneurship. The centre has also added school lectures and personal consultation services, dedicated to promoting the concept and knowledge of career planning in Macau.
We are pleased to see many local institutions increasingly focusing on career planning promotion in Macau. However, we are aware that Macau started relatively late in career planning education and lacks experience in many areas. Therefore, since 2013, our association has been organizing forums to facilitate experience exchange in career planning education among the four regions across the Strait, thereby encouraging greater societal attention to youth career planning education in Macau.
Everyone has a unique life, and career plans vary greatly from person to person. Some pursue dreams, some aspire to become professionals, and some find contentment in simplicity. However, in today's society with its clear division of labor, especially in a small city like Macau under the combined effects of rapid development and a shortage of human resources, how should the younger generation consider social factors when planning their careers?
The 12th Five-Year Plan and the SAR Government's Policy Address both indicate that Macau should promote industrial diversification. Yet, the reality is that Macau's gaming industry dominates, many young people aim for government jobs as a "secure iron rice bowl," and SMEs face hiring difficulties. How should society guide the younger generation to utilize their talents while also promoting social development?
As the pace of career planning development varies across regions—having been implemented for a longer time in Taiwan and Mainland China, started more recently in Hong Kong, and being a later starter in Macau compared to neighboring areas—this forum allows speakers from different regions to exchange insights on the current state of career planning education and services, as well as their research or expertise in the field. This exchange aims to improve the development of career planning across regions, benefiting young students from all areas.
