On the occasion of the 24th Macau Arts Festival, on behalf of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, we extend our heartfelt greetings to all supporting organizations and everyone involved in the performances and services, and a warm welcome to the audience for their enthusiastic support and encouragement!
As a major local cultural event, the Macau Arts Festival fully leverages the city's cultural strengths. With a broad vision and an open mind, it brings together the ancient and modern, East and West, blending the refined and the popular. It is built on the philosophy of "leading aesthetics and promoting the development of local art," aiming to achieve a diverse and harmonious cultural purpose.
This year's festival will build upon this foundation to reach new heights. Artists from over ten countries and regions, alongside local Macau talents, will jointly present 34 spectacular programs, sharing the stage in a brilliant fusion. The lineup includes classic interpretations of masterpieces and innovative explorations of modern works; solo performances showcasing exceptional skill and large-scale dance dramas created through collaboration between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. The opening and closing performances will be two contemporary dance masterpieces that echo each other, embodying profound humanistic care. The play Long Day's Journey into Night, adapted from the work by renowned American playwright Eugene O'Neill, will be co-produced by theatre artists from Taiwan and Macau, using powerful scenes to deeply explore the essence of "home." The National Peking Opera Company will present the newly adapted Peking opera Han Yu Niang, starring Mei School successor Dong Yuanyuan and other famous performers, offering authentic and captivating classic artistry. A large-scale period Cantonese opera performed by young actors will demonstrate the solid foundation of the new generation in traditional theatre. Macau's unique intangible cultural heritage—the Patuá (土生土語) theatre—will take to the stage with humorous creations that satirize current affairs.
The continuous development of the Macau Arts Festival requires the shared concern and support of you and me. We believe this edition will bring more vibrant colors to your cultural life and become an unforgettable annual memory.
