When seats at the table are left empty, how do we keep the warmth of the family reunion dinner alive?
In an old-style tea house, echoes of past revelry seem to linger. An actor weaves between the tables, using a one-man show to guide you through the flavors of a reunion dinner: video calls, soup repeatedly reheated by an elder living alone, relatives' 'home investigations', and the repetitive small talk of festive gatherings... Moments of humor tinged with melancholy reflect the changes in contemporary life and prompt us to reflect on the meaning of 'gathering'.
When traditional families encounter trends like non-marriage, declining birth rates, and emigration, who should cook the reunion dinner? And for whom are we gathering? You are cordially invited to join this feast and reconstruct your own taste of reunion.
A one-portion light meal will be provided to each audience member towards the end of the performance. The meal contains ingredients such as beans, pork, and peanuts. Audience members with dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian) are requested to email [email protected] by September 15.
