Event Overview
To cultivate teenagers' interest in mathematics, help them understand the subject more thoroughly, and broaden their critical thinking skills, the Asian International Mathematical Research Association is organizing the 2023 Hope Cup International Mathematics Invitational (Hong Kong and Macau Region). The event aims to build a communication platform for mathematics enthusiasts in Hong Kong and Macau, comprehensively promote the level of mathematics education in the region, and build students' confidence in learning mathematics while fostering team spirit.
About the Hope Cup
- Origin: Founded in China in 1990.
- Target Audience: Primarily students from primary and secondary schools.
- Focus: Concentrates on fundamental mathematical knowledge and aims to guide students in mastering the core content of their school mathematics curriculum.
- Competition Philosophy: The problems are designed to be "lively but not difficult, clever but not biased."
- Legacy: Over its 30-year history, the competition has accumulated more than 20 million participants, making it one of the most influential and widely participated mathematics competitions in China.
International Development
The Hope Cup began its international expansion early:
- 1997: Japan began participating.
- 2010: Collaborated with the American WMTC to co-found the World Mathematics Team Championship.
- 2019: Launched in Brazil, attracting 7,000 students from all 26 states in its first year. It also drew participants from African countries like Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea.
The Hope Cup brings new hope for students to excel in mathematics in these countries.
