The FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) replaced the FIVB World Grand Prix as the International Volleyball Federation's new premier annual world-class volleyball competition. The first five weeks feature twenty preliminary rounds. After all sixteen teams complete the preliminary matches, the top five teams, along with the host nation, advance to the Finals to compete for the championship title.
The 2018 VNL preliminary rounds are held in various cities from May 15 to June 14. The 12 core teams are: Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. The 4 challenger teams are: Argentina, Belgium, Dominican Republic, and Poland.
Since 1994, Macau has successfully hosted the World Grand Prix 21 times up to 2017, consistently receiving recognition from the FIVB for the organizing committee's work. The event has always been popular with local residents and tourists. In 2018, it debuts in Macau with a new identity as the Volleyball Nations League, promising even higher-level, thrilling matches. This offers audiences another chance to witness the prowess of world-class women's volleyball players and is set to become another major sporting spectacle in Macau.
