Overview
To enhance Macao tertiary students' interest in learning Portuguese and encourage more students to continue their studies, the Higher Education Services Office (GAES) is organizing the "Portuguese Language Master – Portugal Summer Camp" in 2017. This initiative aims to cultivate more Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talents for the Macao SAR.
Eligibility
- Hold a Macao Resident Identity Card.
- Be a full-time student enrolled in a higher diploma or bachelor's degree program in Macao or abroad during the 2016/2017 academic year.
- For beginners: Students with no prior knowledge of Portuguese (excluding final-year graduates).
- For intermediate/advanced students: Students with a proficiency level of A1 or above (reference: 200 hours of study at the level of the Orient Portuguese Institute).
- Exclusions: Native Portuguese speakers, graduates of Portuguese primary/secondary schools, students enrolled in higher education programs where Portuguese is the main language of instruction, and final-year graduates of four-year or longer bachelor's degree programs.
Program Structure
The program consists of two phases:
Phase 1: Preparation in Macao
- For beginners: Choose to attend a 50-hour "Portuguese Basic Training Course" organized by the Orient Portuguese Institute in February, March, or June 2017. (250 places available).
- For students with A1 level or above: Must pass a "Portuguese Proficiency Test." (40 places available).
Phase 2: Summer Camp in Portugal
- GAES will select 80 outstanding students (60 from the training course, 20 from the proficiency test) to proceed to the second phase.
- Selected students will travel to Portugal in two batches during July and August 2017 for a one-month intensive Portuguese summer camp.
- Local institutions will provide intensive Portuguese instruction tailored to the students' proficiency levels.
- The program aims to improve language skills in a relaxed and engaging environment while introducing students to Portuguese history and culture.
- The Macao SAR Government will provide round-trip air tickets (valid for three months) between Macao and Portugal.
- Students are responsible for their own accommodation, meals, and itinerary during free time in Portugal.
