621 Global Music Activation for All! The purpose of the Summer Solstice Music Day is to promote the universal accessibility of music, allowing Macau residents and tourists to truly feel that music is everywhere.
The "2014 Summer Solstice Music Day" will be held on June 21, 2014, at locations including Senado Square, featuring a continuous 10-hour music showcase and flash mob music performances at various spots.
This year places greater emphasis on encouraging music enthusiasts to actively respond to the music day. A special "Youtube Music 300 Seconds" initiative invites music lovers to upload their own music or singing clips (under 300 seconds) to YouTube from June 8 to 21. The video with the highest views will receive multiple exquisite gifts. Additionally, a dedicated online page has been set up to encourage enthusiasts to organize their own celebration activities on June 21 and upload event information or promotions to the page for interaction and exchange.
Originating in France, the Summer Solstice Music Day is a global event proposed in 1982 by American musician Joel Cohen, who worked for a French radio station. Celebrated for 32 years, it now spans five continents, with over 110 countries and 430 cities participating in this festival on June 21, the summer solstice. Since then, every June 21, streets and alleys in all French cities come alive with musicians—professional, amateur, young, and old—presenting a diverse range of musical styles to the public for free.
Shanghai introduced this festival in 2010 during the World Expo, and Beijing followed suit in 2012 with the "Summer Solstice Music Day," allowing everyone to share the joy of music.
