
Objective
To train student health ambassadors with a focus on "Rejecting Drugs," supplemented with other health and disease knowledge relevant to youth. The program includes theoretical instruction, practical training, and a service-learning project to promote health in schools across Macau.
Target Participants & Quota
- Target: Secondary school students studying in Macau.
- Quota: 400 students for the full year (200 for Phase 1, 200 for Phase 2).
Recruitment Period
- Phase 1: Recruitment begins February 1, 2014. Application deadline: March 10, 2014.
- Phase 2: June 2014.
Program Content & Format
- Health Ambassador Training Course (One class in Phase 1, two classes in Phase 2).
- Site Visits:
- Hospital emergency rooms
- Blood donation center (with blood donation knowledge lecture)
- Sports Medicine Centre
- Taipa Psychiatric Hospital
- Healthy Lifestyle Education Centre
- Drug Prevention Education Resources Centre
- Drug rehabilitation centre or correctional facility
- Service-Learning Project:
- Graduated campus health ambassadors will implement health promotion projects in their respective schools.
- The association will provide one-on-one professional mentor support.
- The top three projects will be selected based on effectiveness, with awards of MOP 3,000 (Champion), MOP 2,000 (1st Runner-up), and MOP 1,000 (2nd Runner-up).
Fees
Registration and tuition fees are FREE.
Class Location & Schedule
- Location: Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau.
- Class Time: March 16 to May 25, 2014 (excluding site visits and service-learning project). Classes are held every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Instructors
Experienced professional instructors including specialist doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, nursing teachers, and nurses, depending on the teaching content.
