About the Festival
The festival is organized with a spirit of freedom and exchange, aiming to promote Chinese-language cinema and films from East Asia and around the world. It showcases the multifaceted nature of film as entertainment, an industry, an art form, and a tool for dialogue. Alongside the events described below, the festival will also include retrospectives of classic works and tributes to master filmmakers to raise public awareness of film history.
Event Highlights
- Dates: December 8–13, 2016
- Program: Over 50 films from more than 20 countries and regions, with most being world or Asian premieres.
- Key Events: Opening ceremony, multiple film premieres with red carpet events, film industry networking sessions, post-screening discussions, masterclasses, closing ceremony, and awards presentation.
- Competition: The festival's centerpiece featured films competing for 9 awards, including Best Film, Jury Special Award, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best New Performer, Best Screenplay, Best Technical Contribution, and Macao Audience Choice Award.
- Featured Films: That Year, I Was 17 (directed by Macau's Emily Chan) was featured in the "Hidden Dragons" section. Sisterhood (co-directed by Macau's Tracy Choi and a Hong Kong director) participated in the competition.
- Venues: Screenings and events were held at the Cultural Centre, Macau Tower, UA Galaxy Cinema, and The Venetian Theatre.
- Star Ambassador: Renowned Korean actor Jang Keun-suk.
- Goal: To deepen the international dimension of the festival through the expertise of an international advisory team.
