Overview
The 16th Lusofonia Festival is a vibrant cultural celebration held in Taipa, Macau, showcasing the rich heritage of Portuguese-speaking communities residing in the city. The event aims to promote cultural exchange, honor the contributions of the local Lusophone communities, and serve as a major attraction for tourism and local leisure.
Event Objectives
- To promote the culture, exchange, and integration of Portuguese-speaking countries and regions.
- To honor the Lusophone communities living in Macau who have contributed to its development and continue to serve the Macau SAR.
- To position the event within Macau's major festival calendar, boosting tourism and enriching the leisure life of local residents.

Dates: November 1–3, 2013
Main Area: Carmo Zone, Taipa (includes Avenida da Praia – Taipa Houses-Museum, Carmo Square, Taipa Municipal Garden, and Rua da Restauração).
Detailed Program
- Official Opening Ceremony: November 1, 19:00–19:30 at the Taipa Houses-Museum Amphitheatre. Features lion dance and local Portuguese performing arts groups.
- 10 Lusophone Community Stalls: Representing Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Goa, Damão and Diu, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste. Showcasing snacks, drinks, crafts, art, music, photos, and videos.
- Hours: Nov 1: 19:00–00:00, Nov 2 & 3: 14:00–00:00.
- Lusophone Restaurant & Kiosks: Located at Taipa Municipal Garden (Gastronomia Lusófona) and Avenida da Praia, serving dishes like Cachupa (Cabo Verde), Feijoada (Brazil), Sarapatel (Goa), and Moamba (Angola).
- Hours: Nov 1: 19:00–23:00, Nov 2 & 3: 12:00–15:30 & 18:30–23:00.
- Live Music & Dance Performances:
- Local Artists: Daily at the Taipa Houses-Museum Amphitheatre (Nov 1: 19:30–20:30, Nov 2 & 3: 18:00–20:30).
- International Artists from Lusophone Countries: Nightly 20:30–00:00 (Nov 1: Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Goa; Nov 2: Portugal, Mozambique, Cabo Verde; Nov 3: Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste).
- Traditional Portuguese Games: Coordinated by Casa de Portugal in Macau. November 2 & 3, 15:00–17:30 at Carmo Square. Activities include sack race, tug-of-war, and stilt walking. Prizes include bacalhau, Portuguese wine, and sausages.
- Table Football Tournaments (Matraquilhos): Coordinated by Casa de Portugal in Macau. Categories for under 15 and 16+. Registration on Nov 1 (19:00–00:00) and Nov 2 (12:00–16:00). Finals on Nov 3 at 17:30. Cash prizes for 16+ category (1st: MOP 800, 2nd: MOP 600, 3rd: MOP 400).
- Lusophone 5-a-side Football Invitational: Coordinated by Casa do Brasil em Macau. November 3, 15:00–19:00 at Hac-Sá Park Football Field. 8 invited teams compete for trophies and medals.
- Children's Activities:
- Giant Inflatable Toys (Nov 2 & 3, 14:00–18:00).
- Grand Prix Racing Simulator provided by Macao Government Tourism Office (Nov 1: 19:00–22:00, Nov 2 & 3: 14:00–20:00).
- Pony Rides sponsored by Macau Jockey Club (Nov 2 & 3, 15:00–18:00).
- Children's Recreational Area with workshops and games (Nov 2 & 3, 15:00–18:00).
- Carmo Radio: A live broadcast station at Taipa Houses-Museum playing Lusophone music and announcing events in Portuguese, Chinese, and English.
